These General Terms and Conditions (the "General Terms") govern your use of the Word Ladders app, developed by the University of Bologna as part of an EU-funded academic project named ABSTRACTION: Unlocking meaning from experience through language. The project is funded by the European Union (ERC-2021-STG-ABSTRACTION-101039777). Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Research Council Executive Agency. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them. 

We refer to these two entities in the present document using the pronouns “we” and “us”. 

Please read these General Terms before using the Word Ladders app. By using the Word Ladders app, you confirm that you accept the General Terms and that you agree to comply with them. You should print a copy of these General Terms for future reference. 

The Word Ladders app has a Research&Development scope. The Word Ladders app has been developed as a tool to collect linguistic data, within the academic project “ABSTRACTION”, which aims to explain how we extract meaning from experience through language. The project description can be found here. 

By using the Word Ladders app you therefore agree to take part in the research project as a participant. The participation involves the generation of “word ladders”, namely, word associations produced in relation to an initial word. The words that will be associated, shall be linked to the initial words by relations of category inclusion. 

Any data collected through the Word Ladder app will be used in compliance with the Privacy Policy: for any further details check here. 

Copyright AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY  

University of Bologna owns and retains all IP rights on Word Ladders App. The use of Word Ladders App is free and open, distributed in EU, UK and USA, for personal use. You cannot make, both directly or indirectly, any commercial use of Word Ladders App in all its components and contents, including images. 

CHANGES TO TERMS  

The General Terms may be updated by us from time to time. We will post any changes that we make on this page and will indicate at the top of the page the date that the relevant terms were last revised. 

Your continued use of the Word Ladders app constitutes your acceptance of the new General Terms. If you do not agree to these changes, please do not use or access (or continue to use or access) the Word Ladders app. 

RegistraTION  

If you use Word Ladders App, you expressly accept to use it at your own risk and responsibility, according to lawful and permitted uses. We decline any liability for utilization that exceeds from proper uses of Word Ladders App as defined in these General Terms and Conditions and any liability arising by way of example and not exhaustive from damages, failures, delays, suspensions unless they result from willful misconduct or gross negligence. Although we have no reason to believe that any information contained in this app is inaccurate, we do not warrant the accuracy, adequacy or completeness of the information except where warranties are made non-excludable by applicable legislation.  

The University of Bologna will not be liable for any loss or damage that is not caused by intent or gross negligence, in connection with your Access, the Content or any omissions from the Content. 

TERMINATION

We may terminate your access to the app with or without notice and without liability to you or any third party. The University of Bologna may also remove and discard any User-Uploaded Content on our app for any reason and at any time, including, but not limited to, believing that you have breached our General Terms. 

We may also take any other necessary action we deem reasonable in connection with a breach of these General Terms. 

GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

The interpretation and application of these General Terms and Conditions, as well as the relationship between the Parties arising from it, shall be governed by Italian law. 

All disputes arising, or in any event connected to the provisions of these General Terms and Conditions, including but not limited to, any dispute in relation to the existence, validity and interpretation and effectiveness of these General Terms and Conditions, shall be brought before the Court of Bologna, which shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
